Hello,
It has been almost thirty years since I laid down that pack of cigarettes and just quit smoking. It was easier than I thought it would be. Oh I will admit that I had a few cravings that would cause me some discomfort and urges to have just one more cigarette. But I had developed a stronger dislike for the habit, (what I called it, at that time). I did not know that it was an addiction to nicotine and not a habit. I just realized that it was no longer a pleasure to smoke. It was an activity that had been causing me all sorts of different health problems and to be honest the effort and incentive to smoke was not as strong as the desire to quit.
That smoking habit (addiction) caused me more work than it gave pleasure. I felt the need to have another cigarette immediately after the last one that I had smoked. That feeling was a direct effect of the nicotine in my system that required more and more nicotine to satisfy my cravings and urges. The drained, irritated, anxious feelings that I had when I tried to suppress that urge to smoke. I had no idea that with each and every cigarette that I smoked I was reintroducing nicotine into my system and that was the true cause of those feelings. I could go on explaining all of the negative effects of smoking that I caused myself but that would not be creating a positive mood here. Instead I am going to list the positive things related to quitting smoking.
